Medical interns face police action...!!!

After the deadlock at talks with the government, the protesting medical interns at Mantralaya had to face forceful detention by the police. They were detained near Azad Maidan for nearly 4 Hrs.
Considering the government apathy towards them, complemented by the below average media response and with nobody coming forward to support them from the general public, it seems the intern's are fighting a lone battle.
It also raises a very important question here- Are we living in a state where the status of a qualified medical intern is below that of an unskilled class IV employee??

GOVERNMENT BLATANTLY REFUSES TO NEGOTIATE WITH THE INTERNS!!

The Meeting with the Health Secretary, Mr. Milind Mhaiskar, ended on a disappointing note as the government blatantly refused to negotiate with the interns and even raise a single rupee. Interns continue to protest outside Mantralaya after the meeting ended.
ASMI strongly condemns such a lackadaisical attitude towards the interns logical demands and warns the government against continued ignorance.

Shiv Sena join ASMI strike...

Dr.Deepak Sawant MLA Shiv Sena is sitting today at Kamgar Maidan supporting our Hunger Strike and promised to extend the full-fledged participation from tomorrow if the matter doesn't resolve by today.

He also criticized Vijay Gavit, health minister for totally ignoring the issue and siting at home celebrating Akshay Tritiya. He said this on Live telecast of TV 9 channel today.

ASMI responds to Milind Mhaiskar's statement

Hindustan Times, Mumbai , Date 5th May, 2011,

Milind Mhaiskar's says:-

"Medical Internship is part of their study & they are not yet doctors. There can be no justification for doctors going on strike..."

ASMI says:-

"It's true that 'Medical Internship' is part of our curriculum. In fact 'Medical Internship' is a part of curriculum for Interns all over India. Then why this disparity between the stipends?? Why stipend for interns in Maharashtra the lowest in India?? (eg. Delhi- Rs 13,ooo pm & Maharashtra- just Rs 2500 pm) ?? Therefore we stand justified...

Plight of Health care personnel in Maharashtra

Interns in Maharashtra, who, within a year, will be practicing independently as doctors have been forced to resort to indefinite hunger strike rather than hone their skills.

All this, due to the ignorance of government towards their demands.

So lets see what the demands are:-

1. Raise in stipend from Rs.2,550 to Rs.13,000

2. Regular revision of prices

Considering the costs of living and inflation of prices, do you think the basic necessities of our Health Care Personnels can be fulfilled in a mere Rs.2550

To Make it even, lets see what our partner states' attitudes are towards their own personnel

West Bengal Rs.14,000

Central Institutes Rs.. 13500

Delhi Rs.13000

Assam Rs.12500

Orrisa Rs. 8,600

Karnatka Rs. 8500

UP Rs. 7500

Bihar Rs. 7000

Jharkhand Rs.7000

This, I think, everyone will agree that if a person is not able to fulfill his basic necessities the quality of his work will suffer.
